su un vecchio HP Pavilion 20 con XFCE Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS kernel 5.4.0-121-generic ho messo una penna USB WIFI Realtek MT7619U; con lsusb il sistema la vede

ma non mi fa attivare il WIFI spuntando la casella; cosa c'è di sbagliato?

E' possibile che tu abbia spento il wifi! c'è qualche tasto da premere per attivare il wifi?

non funge; mi viene un terribile sospetto: che il wifi sia disattivato via tasto funzione di tastiera; ora, non ho la tastiera originale, hai idea di cosa fare?

non ci sono tasti funzione nella tastiera originale; lo scorno massimo è che su windows il WIFI funziona, anzi non era neppure necessario che comprassi quresta penna usb perché il suo Ralink c'è, infatti lshw:

Il wifi è sempre disabilitato.


Se hai anche Windows, avvia Windows ed abilita la scheda wireless integrata, riavvia il pc ed avvia Ubuntu.

ho provato anche con una live XFCE 22.04, lo stesso problema, la casella wifi non accetta la spunta; non sarà il network manager di XFCE?

Perfetto! sarà stato l'attivazione del wifi con Windows e poi quando hai spento e riacceso il pc il wifi si è sbloccato.
