[Video] Problema effetti Desktop Ubuntu

Ciao a tutti. Ho un portatile HP dv6383 eu
Caratteristiche:
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60
RAM 2GB DDR2
Scheda video nVidia GeForce 7200
HDD 160GB

Ho installato i driver ufficiali nvidia (questa scheda è supportata, bisogna spulciare il readme e non guardare nella lista delle schede supportate nella pagina dei driver, dove non è presente) utilizzando envy e credo che sia andato tutto molto bene, il pc è stabile e si avvia benissimo. Il problema è che quando vado in "Sistema" "Preferenze" "Effetti Desktop" e provo ad attivarli il pc dopo molto poco (5 secondi circa) si blocca, la schermata rimane fissa e non funziona alcuna combinazione di tasti.
Il problema è che non so proprio da dove partire per risolvere il problema. Devo visualizzare qualche log? Devo farvi vedere la configurazione di xorg?

Ma usi Beryl o Compiz?
Hai attivato l'accelerazione 3D?

Io non ho installato nè Compiz nè Beryl ma ho provato gli effetti desktop che sono presenti di default su Ubuntu Feisty (che poi da quel che so sono praticamente compiz). Gli effetti sono attivati. Il mio problema è che non riesco a capire qual è il problema (nel caso cercherei una soluzione sul web), ma si blocca e non so che errore sia.... Devo recuperare qualcosa dai log?

io ho un pavilion dv6146eu configurazione simile alla tua, ma ho installato i driver già presenti nella 7.04 della nvidia, e gli effetti desktop funzionano.
