[grub] cambiare il sistema operativo d'avvio

Ho un HD ripartito tra Gusty e Kubuntu 4.1o. Kubuntu è l'ultimo s.o. installato, ma all'avvio è quello chemi appare. Come posso fare ad avere Ubuntu come sistema principale? Guardare fisso il monitor, per selezionarlo, durante la frazione di pochi secondi in cui mi appare lla finestradi opzione mi appare molto scomodo.
Agire sul default di menu.lst non è risultato bastare.
P.S.
E possibile passare all'altro s.o., quando siamo già dentro a quello che ci appare dopo l'avvio?

default ti fa scegliere il sistema che parte alla fine del timeout. 0 per il primo della lista e così via. Per prolungare a schermo il tempo di permanenza del menù devi agire su timeout (qualche riga sotto default).

in generale, il S.O. installato per ultimo tende ad appropriarsi del bootloader

pertanto, dovresti modificare il menu.lst che sta nella partizione di Kubuntu

Ho cambiato il numero di default del menu.lst dell'ultimo s.o. installato. Dopo vari tentativi, impostando il numero 4 sono riscito ad avviare con il s.o. da me desiderato (ubuntu 7.10 che avevo installato per primo).

L'unico dubbio che mi rimane è la spiegazione logica del perchè ho dovuto mettere il 4.
Per chi mi volesse aiutare...

E' semplice:

- prima hai installato ubuntu su sda1 che grub preferisce chiamare (hd0,0)
- poi su sda3 (hd0,2) hai installato kubuntu, il quale si è appunto appropriato dell'MBR e quindi ha messo per prime in grub le sue 3 opzioni di avvio e spostando per ultime le 3 che ha trovato già e che si riferiscono all'ubuntu precedentemente installato
- perciò partendo da 0 e contando le volte che appaiono le righe title e root, si arriva alla 5° opzione di avvio (sì, bisogna contare anche il divider) ed ecco il tuo default=4 per ubuntu

tutto chiaro?

l'unico problema potrebbe avvenire nel caso ci sia un aggiornamento del kernel di ubuntu
infatti solo le prime 3 opzioni (quelle che si trovano in "DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC") saranno automaticamente aggiornati dal grub
le altre opzioni dovranno essere aggiornate a mano

soluzione? installare il S.O. preferito per ultimo...

Un modo c'è, riavviare ...
Non puoi cambiare OS "in corsa" devi riavviare il pc...
