Da synaptic ho provato a rimuovere vlc, compresi i files di configurazione (l'equivalente dell'opzione --purge di apt-get), cancellare la directory .vlc della mia home, reisntallare, ma non cambia nulla.
Questo è ciò che ottengo se provo a lanciarlo da terminale:

Non so se possa aver influito in qualche modo, ma di recente ho installato i driver nvidia e riconfigurato xorg con il comando
