Multifunzione Epson DX4000 scanner non riconosciuto

Ho questo problema che mi tormenta, lo scanner di questa multifunzione non viene riconosciuto, dando da terminale questo comando :
sane-find-scanner

  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

quindi devo dedurre che non mi riconosce nessuno scanner,
ho anche esguito la seguente guida http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/Hardware/Stam ... annerEpson ma con risultati scarsi.
