Riprendo un post che però non ha avuto risoluzione e lo integro...
Ho un hd usb maxtor esterno, che tengo sempre collegato ed acceso (anche perché non ha nessun pulsante di spegnimento!)

Guardando nel mio fstab, ho notato che, stranamente, non viene neppure nominato (è dev/sda1):

nonostante ciò, all'avvio me lo monta automaticamente in lettura/scrittura... compare l'icona sul desktop; solo che, a random, l'icona compare un po' una volta, un po' due volte: in quel caso, quando lo smonto, una delle due icone scompare dal desktop, l'altra rimane ma è ovviamente inutilizzabile...

Qualcuno ha qualche idea al riguardo?

nel fstab ci sono solo i dischi collegati stabilmente, quindi gli HD esterni o le pernne usb non li trovi lì; questi, generalmente vengono montati in automatico.

Se ti compaiono due icone, forse è perchè il disco ha due partizioni.

No, il disco ha una sola partizione in formato NTFS

bisognerebbe vedere il log del kernel per capire questo strano comportamento.
