[RISOLTO] HELP: ubuntu + MS Virtual PC 2004 + Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME

Ciao a tutti, è il mio primo post e colgo l'occasione per salutare tutti.

Ho letto vari post sul forum ma non ho trovato nulla circa il mio problema specifico.
Premetto di essere un novellino di linux e che le eventuali spiegazioni, che gentilmente vorrete darmi, dovranno essere semplici e molto dettagliate...

Vengo al problema: ho un notebook Dell Inspirion 510m che monta la scheda grafica in oggetto. Ho installato ubuntu su MS virtual pc 2004 senza alcun tipo di problema. Quando il sistema si riavvia mi compare una schermata nera dove riesco a intravedere alcuni comandi del desktop, ma è impossibile lavorarci. Suppongo che il problema sia la scheda grafica e l'impostazione della risoluzione. Ho trovato i driver Intel per linux ma non so assolutamente da dove iniziare.

Qualcuno può soccorrermi...

Si, faticando un po ci sono riuscito; comunque quando provo a selezionare "sistema" le icone sono enormi e irriconoscibili.

Suppongo che la sezione device di /etc/X11/xorg.conf debba diventare:

Ho un solo problema, non so come editare il file dalla command line. Ho usato il comando VIM ma non riesco a trovare il modo di salvare il file una volta editato.

PS. Ho provato ad utilizzare la versione Kubuntu live sulla stessa macchina e funziona regolarmente. Che stranezza!!!

Fatto! Ho usato questo comando: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg e dopo vari tentativi, impostando il driver vesa, ci sono riuscito.

Attento! I vesa sono driver generici: non hai abilitata né l'accelerazione grafica né gli altri "effetti" della tua scheda...

Sicuro che il problema non fosse altrove? Che so, ad esempio avevi indicato "Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device" in Identifier (potevi metterci anche Pippo, andava bene lo stesso), ma non lo avevi riportato UGUALE alla sezione "device" di Screen... o chissà quale altro errore...

Ce la fai a postarlo ora tutto l'xorg.conf (visto che ti parte la modalità grafica, anche se "monca")?

fai cosi', metti i810 come driver, e poi riavvia X.
Ti dara' errore, e gli errori sono loggati nel file /var/log/Xorg.0.log, se alleghi qui quel file possiamo vedere che errore ti da usando il driver i810. Dai anche un'occhiata qui:

C'e' il xorg.conf di uno che ha la tua stessa scheda, puoi prendere spunto e vedere se funziona.

sembrerebbe dire che nella posizione PCI00:08:0 non c'è proprio la scheda...
Prova a dare il comandi lspci e a vedere se è veramente là...

Per quanto riguarda:

Non mi preoccuperei: la sezione "screen" non indica lo schermo vero e proprio (è "monitor"), quanto l'accoppiata scheda-monitor da usare (nel caso tu ne abbia più di uno...); quindi se non trova la scheda è ovvio che impazzisca.

Comunque ecco il mio xorg.conf "basilare" (ne ho anche uno per il doppio monitor, ma non credo ti interessi qua); come vedi è praticamente identico al tuo:

E anche questa, forse, potrebbe essere una causa; leggi un po' qua:

Quindi:
1) Controlla che l'indirizzo PCI sia giusto con lspci
2) Se PCI è giusto, prova ad aggiungere "UseFBDev" "True" a "device"
Incrociamo le dita!

P.S. i driver che hai scaricato dovrebbero essere inutili: ubuntu li ha già (anche io ho la stessa scheda e me li ha installati bene...).
Guarda però da synaptic se hai installato il pacchetto: xerver-xorg-driver-i810: quelli sono i driver

Ho fatto partire la distro live e guarda un pò il file xorg.conf:

Caro kaiowas hai ragione tu... l'indirizzo PCI della scheda con l'installazione sotto MS Virtual PC 2004 è
PCI 00:08:0, mentre con la versione live è PCI 00:02:0

Adesso provo a modificare l'indirizzo. Comunque il problema è certamente la "MS Virtual PC 2004" perchè con la versione live mi ha riconosciuto istantaneamente anche la WiFi e la scheda audio, cosa che con l'installazione in "MS Virtual PC 2004" non aveva fatto minimamente.

Grazie infinite dell'aiuto fornito. Spero un giorno di poter ricompesare questo aiuto.

Appena faccio qualche prova posto i risultati... per i posteri!

P.S. si può utilizzare Gedit con i diritti di amministratore e modificare direttamente il file xorg.conf? Se lo apro mi dice che è in sola lettura. Devo per forza usare VIM in console?

Ho trovato... sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Il comando sudo esprime veramente un significato di fatica...

Sto imparando una cifra di cose grazie a ubuntu!

Di nulla! Anche io non sono certo un esperto di linux, e so quanto sia importante l'aiuto degli altri.
Comunque benvenuto nella comunità, e vedrai che ti trovarai bene (anche solo per l'estrema educazione che hai usato nei tuoi post: fossero tutti come te... ::))
