Re: Problemi installazione kuote

The install procedure ultimately boils down to putting it where KDE expects it so you can just "Add Applet" from the panel menu and KDE finds it without problem.

Disclaimer: I hacked it rather than doing it 'the right way.' The right way would be to mess around with passing the configure script different paths until it puts everything (via 'make install') in the right place. But the paths used in configure weren't immediately intuitive to me, so I installed and manually copied the necessary files to my correct system paths.

The default install locations for kuote (when I ran it) were /usr/local/kde/share/apps/
and /usr/local/kde/lib/

I moved the following files..
//The description file that makes it appear in the "Add Applets" list
/usr/local/kde/share/apps/kicker/applets/kuote.desktop
-> /usr/share/apps/kicker/applets/

//The directory with all the animations & stuff kuote relies on
/usr/local/kde/share/apps/kuote
-> /usr/share/apps/

//The actual executable files (not a standalone app, but a library that gets linked with KDE code)
/usr/local/kde/lib/kuote_panelapplet.la
and kuote_panelapplet.so
-> /usr/share/lib/kde3/

Obviously the destination paths on your system may be different (I'm running Kubuntu 6.10) but the files involved are the same ;)

The two paths you have to find are your apps/ and your kde library path.
After you've moved everything you should be able to just 'Add Applet'.

I suggest you run 'make install' so you can check its output and verify where it's installing. Then you can copy (or move) the files and run 'make uninstall' afterwards, to clean up the original (wrongly placed) mess.
qualche anima pia mi darebbe una mano?? :)
