Ci ho già provato. Mah...

o commetti un'errore stupido, ma avrai provato 100 volte immagino. Oppure guarda dentro .xsession-errors che hai nella tua home. Se ci sono errori di avvio lo vedi li dentro.

Non ha funzionato, però in quella cartella ho cancellato tutto ciò che riguardava pidgin e in "Sessioni" ho riaggiunto pidgin (così dovrebbe aver ricreato il file) ed ora si avvia in automatico Grazie

Essendo un novellino di Ubuntu e dell'installazione dei programma da sorgente chiedo aiuto.
Sto provando a seguire le istruzioni del primo post, ignorando quelle riguardanti il plugin plus.

cioè dopo aver eseguito su terminale la seconda riga passo direttamente alla nona.

Quando eseguo il comando
./configure

dopo una serie di checking for , mi restituisce questo errore:

Purtroppo sebbene io capisca che c'è un problema con il network-manager non so interpretare bene il suggerimento che il terminale mi da e non so come risolvere il problema.Qualcuno potrebbe aiutarmi?

Visto che tu stesso hai detto che non hai pratica con la compilazione, perché non ti scarichi i pacchetti .deb da qui: http://www.getdeb.net/app/Pidgin ? Se non c'è nessun motivo particolare per fare diversamente, è molto più semplice così

Per certi versi hai ragione, per altri no 
Quando sono passato a Ubuntu ero conscio che avrei avuti dei "problemi" nell'usarlo, però l'ho fatto anche desideroso di imparare a usarlo. Questa è la mia prima installazione per mezzo della "compilazione" e  insisterò nel provarla perchè vorrei imparare come si fa. Ovviamente se non riesco potrò usare il metodo meno difficoltoso tramite pacchetti .deb  da te suggeritomi

Grazie...un errore banale da novellino!!!
Sono riuscito a terminare la compilazione e l'installazione di pidgin(fatta eccezione per il plugin plus!). Ora il problema è che il programma non parte  ??? Quando provo ad avviarlo dalla lista delle applicazione il programma sembra caricarsi ma dopo qualche istante non succede nulla(dalla barra inferiore scompare la scritta "avvio di pidgin"). Cosa potrei aver sbagliato

ho la versione 2.5.2 e riscontro numerosi problemi nell'invio delle emoticon personalizzate (quelle aggiunte a mano)....io le visualizzo ma la persona che le riceve no. è un problema noto?
in ogni caso, faccio una domanda "forse" idiota: ho scaricato i .deb per l'aggiornamento a 2.5.5, devo prima rimuovere le vecchie versioni dei pacchetti?

Rieccomi al mio n-esimo tentativo di installare pidgin "a mano". Come da te suggerito ho installato networkmanager-dev e ho seguito la procedura del primo post. Nessun problema, tutto è filato liscio in fase di installazione (precisazione: non ho installato il plugin plus però: spero che quando tenterò non ci saranno problemi  )

Forse Mattia ha ragione perchè nonostante l'installazione sia filata liscia, pidgin continua a non partire. Tra le altre cose non compare nemmeno l'icona del piccione nel menù delle applicazioni (ma credo che questo sia un problema secondario). Provando ad avviare il programma da terminale mi viene stampato a video  questo:

pidgin: error while loading shared libraries: libpurple.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Qual'è il problema?
Cosa mi suggerite di fare?
