problemi build-essential

ciao!
cercavo di installare il pacchetto build-essential per utilizzare gcc per programmare, ma mi viene dato il seguente errore:
I seguenti pacchetti hanno dipendenze non soddisfatte:
  build-essential: Dipende: libc6-dev ma non sta per essere installato oppure
                            libc-dev
                  Dipende: g++ (>= 4:4.1.1) ma non sta per essere installato
E: Pacchetto non integro

Tentando di installare libc6-dev ho questo errore:
I seguenti pacchetti hanno dipendenze non soddisfatte:
  libc6-dev: Dipende: libc6 (= 2.6.1-1ubuntu10) ma 2.7-13 sta per essere installato

Ma libc6 è già alla versione più recente.
Che fare?

ho risolto il problema (spero definitivamente...) downgrade-ando libc6 alla versione 2.6.1-1ubuntu10 e poi installando libc6-dev e build-essentials.

Domanda: il downgrade di libc6 ha manomesso qualche dipendenza importante?
