[Grub] problema grub nell'avvio di xp

ciao, ho provato ad aggiornare ubuntu 8.04 con 8.10 ma visto che si è piantato su uno schermo bianco, ho deciso di reinstallare l'8.04. In avvio se scelgo ubunto tutto bene, se vado su xp mi appare la seguente scritta:
Grub loading, please wait.............e poi

ho provato a navigare sulle discussioni ma non ho trovato indizi utili (almeno credo)Ho quindi bisogno d'aiuto urgente perchè xp è usato da mia moglie ed è li che ha tutti i suoi doc.
Qualcuno può aiutarmi???

Salve.
Ho avuto un problema simile e ho risolto con un floppy disk di boot win98.
In pratica imposta il  bios in modo che dia priorità di avvio dal floppy disk.
Riavvia computer con il floppy inserito.
Il computer parte dal floppy disk.
Al prompt a:\ digita quanto segue:
FDISK /MBR
Poco dopo viene riproposto il prompt a:\
Spegni il computer e riavvialo togliendo il dischetto.
Windows dovrebbe ripartire come prima.
A me è andato tutto Ok.
Nessun dato perso.
Configurazione windows tale e quale a quella che avevo lasciato.

Uno dei due XP funziona ? non ho visto errori sul menu.lst, non so aiutarti.

Dal messaggio che ricevi sembra che il problema sia un grub corrotto più che qualcosa relativo a windows. Fai partire ubuntu. Apri un terminale e dai
sudo grub
root (hd1,0)
setup (hd0)
quit
Poi riavvia e prova a vedere se carica anche windows.

Stesso problema...

anzi a me è partito l'mbr, anche perchè all'installazione ubuntu mi aveva fatto mettere lilo dato che grub non ne voleva sapere di partire.

Ora mi ritorovo la partizione di win non vista dal live di ubuntu e niente boot, spero oggi di riuscire a installarlo dato che ieri con il mio unico cd a disposizione si fermava al 63% dopo dava un errore o disco corrotto o hard disk danneggiato

solo tu puoi dirlo, il comando è terminato con successo, ma se ha risolto il problema lo sai tu.

non puoi perché il disco di boot è proprio quello dove ci sono i due win. Nessuno dei due funziona ?

dei due xxp che si vedono nella lista uno è il SO dove ci sono i dati ecc. (media center) l'altro è un Recovering, mi è parso di capire che serve a reinstallare il sistema originario (l'ho avviato e mi diceva che avrebbe proceduto facendomi perdere tutti i dati....l'ho chiuso)
