in parole povere, non riesco ne ad aggiornare, ne ad accedere a synaptic dopo che ho aggiornato.

Questo è un problema grave del sistema di gestione del software. Controllare i pacchetti danneggiati con synaptic, i permessi dei file e la correttezza dei file presenti in «/etc/apt/sources.list» e ricaricare le informazioni del software con: «sudo apt-get update» e «sudo apt-get install -f».

hai due sources.list?
Comunque i repository sono mischiati, quello che a te interessa è il sources.list , il dist upgrade lo puoi anche eliminare.
Aprilo con:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

cancella il contenuto e salvalo vuoto, poi apri synaptic, vai ad impostazioni > archivi dei pacchetti nella prima etichetta (software per ubuntu ) selezioni tutte e quattro le opzioni, poi vai all'etichetta aggiornamenti e selezioni solo i primi due dall'alto. chiudi.
apri un terminale e dai:
sudo apt-get update e vedi se funziona.

Impossibile installare «linux-image-2.6.27-14-generic»

L'avanzamento continuerà, ma il pacchetto «linux-image-2.6.27-14-generic» potrebbe non funzionare. Potrebbe essere utile segnalare un bug riguardo questo problema.

il sottoprocesso post-installation script ha restituito un codice di errore 2

mi dà questo errore quando riaggiorno. Che posso fare?

non capisco perchè ti voglia installare il kernel 27 che era di intrepid, ma hai completato l'avanzamento? Apri un terminale e posta il risultato di:
uname -a

dal kernel in uso sembra che tu abbia intrepid, non ho capito se hai fatto aggiornamenti di intrepid o se hai tentato un avanzamento a jaunty.
