un casino  (rotfl) (rotfl) no in realta vorrei informarmi su come si può eliminare una dicitura di un s.o. dal boot di avvio .....mi hanno detto di "studiarmi " anche grub

Se vuoi far sparire un so da Grub puoi farlo, poi però non potrai avviarlo.
A meno che questo non si trovi su un' altro hd col suo Grub installato sul medesimo hd.

Ti spiego:  ho già intrepid con /  swap /home separata  ....vorrei crearmi una partizione su cui installare il nuovo s.o. su cui smanettare e sino qua non ci sono problemi. Una volta testato andrei ad aggiornare intrepid  ma poi andrei ad eliminare il s.o. di smanettamento. Questo mi causerebbe un "problema" in boot, in quanto mi ritroverei due diciture con lo stesso nome del s.o.  di cui una è inattiva in quanto eliminata. Io vorrei proprio levare quella che non serve poi è  brutta da vedere al lancio del s.o.

basta aprire il file e cancellare le righe (verso il fondo) che si riferiscono  a quel SO che non c'è più. Magari per non fare danni metti solo un cancelletto # davanti a ogni riga che lo riguarda

si, perchè in menu.lst rimarrebbero le righe riguardanti win,solo che in quel caso le potresti cancellare definitivamente visto che win lo hai eliminato.

con due sistemi avrai due /boot/grub/menu.lst in due partizione e non conta il penultimo. Se aggiorni il kernel del sistema installato prima devi copiare le voci a mano, non è difficile.

no, se aggiorni il sistema installato prima e arriva un kernel nuovo questo sistema non sa nulla della altra cartella /boot/grub del sistema nuovo e aggiorna il menu.lst suo. Dopo basta che copi le voci nuovi nell'altro.

Non ci siamo capiti: se te installi jaunty il menu.lst lo scrive lui sulla partizione sua con tutte le voci sue, quelli per intrepid e per windows mentre  questo qui rimane inattivo per sempre. Se aggiorni intrepid e arriva un kernel nuovo si aggiorna questo che hai postato, ma le voci per intrepid in quello di jaunty rimangono uguale. Ed è lì devi incollarci le voci per il kernel nuovo prendendoli da questo.

Il menu è in fondo, le righe title vedi all'avvio
