Ubuntu + Jwm + Rox-filer < Puppy Linux

Vorrei creare una distro leggera sulla falsa riga di Puppy Linux.
Purtroppo shakerando a caso i pacchetti da Synaptic il risultato è stato decisamente impietoso.
Ho provato a rubare qualcosa da Puppy ma i risultati sono stati nulli.

Per iniziare con ordine:

- Slim o GDM? Ogni volta che uso slim ho problemi se passo alle console virtuali, e sono costretto a chiudere la sessione da terminale.

- Di default Icewm non ha un qualcosa simile ad autostart di Openbox, per avviare alcune opzioni Puppy usa il file xinitrc, nel mio caso invece dovrei editare il file bashrc?

- Se pur lo sviluppo di IceWM è tuttora in corso, alcuni tool, come da riferimento sul wiki, non esistono nei repo mentre i sorgenti fanno riferimento al 2004 e io purtroppo non riesco a compilarli da Jaunty.

- I file di configurazione mi sono sembrati confusi.

- Non riesco ad installare correttamente il pacchetti ROX-Lib di Rox dal sito. Mi chiede di scompattarlo in /usr/lib ma un volta inserito non lo vede.

- Puppy Linux ha delle ottimizzazioni che in Ubuntu non ci sono.

- Perché non capisco mai una fava?  >:(

Prova intanto a delinare delle linee guida per il progetto e cosa vuoi usare esattamente, così magari si possono vedere delle alternative. Già GDM per una minimale ad esempio mi sembra un macigno.

Be per iniziare potrei cercare di impostare meglio ICEWM.

Sull login manager anche se GDM è effettivamente un macigno però funziona bene di suo, come dicevo slim ha dei problemi se lasciato con i settaggi di default.

Però per iniziare con ordine, e considerando che il riferimento è Puppy, direi che bisognerebbe seguire questo percorso:

1) Impostare correttamente i parametri di Icewm per  la gestione corretta dei menu e della barra laterale. Valutare se è possibile usare gli strumenti preposti al tempo.

2) Creare i file di configurazione (xinitrc? autostart? bashrc?) per avviare correttamente gli elementi che permettono un corretta integrazione tra Rox e Icewm.

3) Fare una selezione di programmi leggeri e configurare Rox per la migliore integrazione con essi (lanciatori sul desktop e associazione coi vari programmi).

4) Selezionare una serie di combinazioni tra temi e icone carina.

5) Configurare Slim per un corretto fuzionamento.

Il menu base è troppo confuso, mentre il menu di Puppy anche se meglio organizzato è statico.
Più tardi posto la documentazione di Icewm per evincere meglio quale soluzione seguire per modifcare il menu e scegliere la via del menù statico o di quello dinamico.

Cosa intendi per troppo statico?

Per statico intendo che le voci devono essere aggiunte manualmente, il menu non si autoaggiorna (anche se credo che Puppy abbia una qualche applicazione per permettere l'aggiornamento).

Analizzando meglio e studiando un pochino ho scoperto che Puppy usa Jwm.
Ora con Jwm sto avendo dei problemi se provo a collegarmi con GDM o SLIM, se uso questi due login manager da VBOX si avvia a risoluzione ridotta pur avendo installato le guest additions, al contrario se do il comando startx parte normalmente.

Ad un'una prima analisi sembra che Jwm sia più semplice da configurare rispetto ad Icewm ma il fatto che Puppy lavori sulla root mi sta creando un po' di noie con l'analisi dei file di configurazione (.jwmrc).

Noto anche che molti programmi richiamati nella tray sono specifici di Puppy e non sono presenti nei repo, devo provare a compilarli o scoprire se esiste un programma come Aline con converte da PET a DEB.

Scusate se trasformo il thread in un officina di lavoro, prima di riprovare con Icewm voglio ritentare con JWM.
Al momento i problemi di JWM sono due: 1)non funziona con i login-manager, 2) difficoltà nel configurarne l'aspetto.

Ho deciso di lasciare per ultimo il problema di slim e di passare alla personaliazzione.
JWM è un WM con un pannello con alcuni task gia pronti, mentre gli altri vanno installati da sorgenti. aptitPuppy ne usa alcuni che sono ASAPM(controllo batteria), FREEMEMAPPLET(applet per consumo memoria) e [url=http://]Blinky[/url](applet per la rete)


Al momento per compilare ho installato i seguenti pacchetti:

Ho cambiato strategia invece di compilare quelle sto cercando dentro i repo.
Al momento sto integrando alcune applet di WindowMaker anche se non si integrano molto bene, mentre per slim ho risolto con XDG e XBANNER.
Se trovassi delle applet decenti potrei passare allo studio della personalizzazione dei temi e stare decisamente a buon punto!

Sono riuscito a recuperare dei vecchi tool di configurazione che però non funzionano in maniera ottimale.
Sto chiedendo in un'altra sezione delucidazioni in merito anche se ho notato che a parte Cubi rotanti, programmi vari su Wine e Fotosciop_vs_Gimp tutti gli altri thread passano praticamente nel disinteresse più totale...  (bad)

- Di default Icewm non ha un qualcosa simile ad autostart di Openbox, per avviare alcune opzioni Puppy usa il file xinitrc, nel mio caso invece dovrei editare il file bashrc?

- Se pur lo sviluppo di IceWM è tuttora in corso, alcuni tool, come da riferimento sul wiki, non esistono nei repo mentre i sorgenti fanno riferimento al 2004 e io purtroppo non riesco a compilarli da Jaunty.

- I file di configurazione mi sono sembrati confusi.

- veramente ha un sistema praticamente uguale a quello di openbox, devi fare il file eseguibile /home/utente/.icewm/startup e dentro ci metti i vari comandi nello stesso modo che fai per openbox

- gli strumenti di configurazione sono vecchi e non più mantenuti, spesso usano vecchie versioni dei toolkit grafici o di python, e quelli in python versioni di questo linguaggio non girano... i vari strumenti di configurazione andrebbero riscritti per adattarli all'evoluzione dei linguaggi di programmazione.

- i file di configuazione non sono per niente confusi, quello principale (/usr/share/icewm/preferences per la configurazione globale, /home/utente/.icewm/preferences per il tuo utente) ha una piccola configurazione per ogni opzione. poi basta che segui la guida di icewm e molto si chiarisce

Icewm è un po' troppo chiuso forse preferivo JWM, grazie per la dritta di autostar farò subito una prova!

A questo punto però dato che ho capito come far funzionare Thunar e Xfdesktop senza portarmi a presso 10.000 librerie potrei ripassare a Openbox + Tint...
