mi sembra fatta bene, ma a momento non la posso testare perchè ho ubu 7.04! solo aggiungerei alla fine un accenno ai repo di trevino che mettono a disposizione gli ultimi driver open che supportano molte più schede. io ho una x600 e quando usavo ubu 6.10 l'unica soluzione che avevo trovato soddisfacente alla fine era stata quella... magari sottolineane la rischiosità

La guida è fatta anche per la 7.04 leggi bene ho apportato delle modifiche.I repo di trevino non penso che possano supportare più schede di quelle che ho citato I driver per Ubuntu e linux fanno riferimento al tipo di Gpu e non al modello specifico della scheda.La tua dovrebbe essere supportata .Controlla il chipset.

la mia scheda è ben supportata sotto ubu 7.04, non lo era sotto ubu 6.10 (senza condizionali, è un affermazione); su ubuntu 6.10 ha funzionato solo dopo la procedura citata qui http://3v1n0.tuxfamily.org/blog/informatica/linux/installare-xorg-72-e-mesa-652-in-ubuntu-edgy-eft/ secondo me perchè la guida sia completa ci vuole un accenno, come ultima spiaggia. I driver pacchettizzati da trevi supportano più schede perchè sono più nuovi (sono uguali a quelli presenti in ubuntu 7.04) e quindi migliori di quelli presenti di base in ubu 6.10

innanzitutto scusate l'assenza...
ero impegnato a preparare la mia prima birra rossa!!!

cmq, è ovvio che il modulo dri dovrebbe essere caricato, ma se scommento quella riga all'avvio del server x al posto di un rullo di congas, ne ho due (già questo è simpatico..) e non parte la grafica, meglio dire che rimane tutto lo schermo color avana (lo standard ubuntu feisty).
a quel punto entro in una consolle e vado a ri-commentare il caricamento del dri...

allora riepilogo: scheda ati M10 radeon 9600.
ubuntu 7.04 non ne vuole sapere.
k-ubuntu 7.04 mi da rendering attivo, anche se risoluzione max 1024x768 anzichè 1600x1200 (ma sarebbe il minimo..)

domanda: QUAL'È LA DIFFERENZA?????

le righe, in entrambi gli output, che secondo me fanno la differenza sono quelle che iniziano con OpenGL.

fammi indovinare: con ubu hai seguito la vecchia guida del wiki, con kubu no? secondo me , se non è fresco di installazione, ma già modificato secondo guida, fai prima a formattare e reinstallare ubu 7.04. per la risoluzione è necessario , una volta che il resto funziona coi driver open (ati) , riconfigurare l'xorg: è capitato anche a me (tra l'altro mi si settava ad una risoluzione non standard!). per riconfigurare ti consiglio di farti una copia di backup del file originario di configurazione, quindi lanciare il comando per riconfigurare e dopo di aggiustarlo a mano guardando quello vecchio

no, aspetta, mi sa che non hai capito.
i due output si riferiscono alle due versioni DI BASE, cioè senza che io ne modifico niente.
io VOGLIO usare gnome per diversi motivi.
quello che mi chiedo è perchè kubuntu usa dei driver "leggermente" diversi da ubuntu?

i driver sono gli stessi..a meno che non usi 2 kernel differenti..allora potrebbero essere diversi anche i driver(nella versione ovviamente)
Il modulo radeon e' uno solo..sia che usi puppy,mint.slack,fedora,turbo,knoppix...etc

che dirti, ho scaricato le due immagini contemporaneamente, quindi i kernel dovrebbero essere uguali, cmq faccio ripartire la live di kubuntu e controllo il kernel..

però perchè nel glxinfo di kubuntu i driver OpenGL li segna di Tungsten graphics, mentre quelli di Ubuntu sono di mesa?

a me sembra come se fossero due differenti versioni...
hai visto l'output che ho postato in precedenza? nel glxinfo di ubuntu non vedo la stringa:

segno che i driver non sono gli R300 20060815, giusto?

poi, se può aiutare, ho dato un'altra occhiata a kubuntu e ho appurato che il kernel è 2.6.20-15-generic, ed è lo stesso di ubuntu, e poi l'output di lsmod mi da un modulo radeon e un modulo drm che per esempio non trovo nell'output di lsmod di ubuntu..

quando lo faccio partire mi dice semplicemente che screen:0 non è 'capable' di 'direct rendering'..
come faccio invece a provare ad aggiungere i moduli radeon e drm, li aggiungo semplicemente a /etc/modules ? potrebbe servire?
