La mia domanda è, lo butto? si possono riparare? cosa significa?

Se non ti logga errori puoi stare relativamente tranquillo al momento e usarlo altri 2 giorni o altri 10 anni.
Magari disattiva gli avvisi relativi al disco da sistema»preferenze»applicazioni d'avvio, per stare più tranquillo.

ciao, grazie delle info, ho provato a fare come dici ma dopo aver installato da ubuntu softare center, poichè da terminale non me lo trovava, non riesco a farlo partire perchè non so dove lo ha installato. Ti ho fatto perdere un po' di tempo inutile, io lo uso da riga di comando e pensavo l'interfaccia si chiamasse come il programma da riga di comando, con la g davanti.

Si chiama gsmartcontrol l'interfaccia.
Magari hai installato solo smartmontools, per questo non si avvia niente.

Io di triangolini non non ne ho mai visti, non so se il disco è tanto vecchio da non supportare smart o cosa.

Hai avuto troppi errori in un lasso di tempo, la segnalazione è quella, se questi programmi leggono bene i tuoi dati smart.
Se li leggono bene, probabilmente hai qualche problema di meccanica o con la superficie del disco, se li leggono male (come si fa a saperlo?) puoi ignorare l'avviso.

Casomai prova a fare il self-test da riga di comando e vedi cosa esce.

Per controllare un seagate/maxtor ci vuole seatools, io proprio lo disinstallerei quel programma, fossi in te... Veridicità di quello che leggi molto dubbia.
Non che smartmontools faccia miracoli coi seagate/maxtor, ma almeno non ti manda in paranoia.

Se vuoi un consiglio, scarica seatools, o la iso per il livecd avviabile, oppure, anche se scarichi la versione per windows, dentro l'archivio ci trovi la iso for dos.
La masterizzi stile livecd e fai partire il sistema da cd.
Se non leggi problemi puoi stare tranquillo.
