Puoi cercare una guida per la tua scheda grafica e tentare una configurazione o provare un live di una distro precedente, magari successiva alla 8.10 che non è più supportata. Quando poi hai visto che ti va bene la installi.

Se hai reinstallato da poco e gli effetti vanno,...
.... molto probabilmente, appena dovessi eseguire gli aggiornamenti, non andranno più!

A meno che, nelle vecchie installazioni, tu non abbia smanettato più di tanto.
Non fare cose strane, aggiorna e vedi!
Nel momento in cui non dovessero più andare, vai a ritroso, per capire se la colpa sarebbe da attribuire a qualche aggiornamento e/o manovre "strane".
