Passaggio a 11.10 e wifi morto (e problemi minori)

Problemi riscontrati durante l'installazione di Ubuntu, degli aggiornamenti e degli avanzamenti del sistema.

Ho un eeepc 1000h, avevo la 11.04 e tutto funzionava a meraviglia, aggiorno alla 11.10 e il wifi non vuole funzionare.
Ho pure reinstallato l'os (formattato la partizione e reinstallato da 0).

Se provo ad aprire il Network-Manager mi dice "Wired Network Disconnected".
(anche se provo ad aprire wicd fa lo stesso errore).

Infine ho un problema in secondo piano, sull'icona in fondo a destra mi compare solamente sospendi, iberna e blocca schermo; mancano arresta,termina sessione e riavvia (etc). Questo problema me lo dava anche con l'11.04 quando usavo unity, ma non mi ha mai toccato visto che utilizzavo quello classico.

Ora mi interesserebbe provare questo nuovo DE e quindi vorrei poter abilitare quei due tasti.
