[NVidia] ubuntu 11.10 scheda video NVIDIA GeForce GT 520MX

Ciao!!

Sto cercando di far funzionare la mia scheda video, una NVIDIA GeForce GT 520MX, su l'ultima versione di ubuntu (11.10).

Installato il sistema, Ubuntu, sfruttando la scheda integrata dell'intel, restituiva una resa video ottima. Al comando lspci, si ottiene:

Per installare i driver dell'nvidia, come prima cosa, sono andato su "additional drivers", ma elenco compariva vuoto.

Ho eseguito il seguente comando da terminale:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

Sono tornato alla finestra "additional drivers", adesso nell'elenco comparivano i driver installati ma non ancora attivi. Riavviato il sistema, l'aspetto grafico aveva perso "qualità", ad esempio il laucher a sinistra mostrava animazioni meno curate, non avevo più la possibità di ridimensionare una finestra spostandola in alto, a sinistra o a destra del monitor.

Ho poi eseguito il comando:

sudo apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Al riavvio il sistema rimane inchiodato durante le fasi di caricamento iniziali.


Quindi le domande:

• L'errore è stato aver invertito l'ordine dei comandi? Cioè andavano prima rimossi i driver nouveau e poi installati quelli dell'nvidia?
• Posso recuperare la situazione o devo reistallare ubuntu?
• Si riesce ad avere una resa ottimale anche con i driver nvidia? Altrimenti posso accontentarmi della scheda intel, tanto al momento non ho particolari esigenze grafiche.

AGGIORNAMENTO!

Sono riuscito a "ripristinare" il sistema, se non altro ora posso eseguire il sistema e non lavorare tramite la live.

Per riuscirci ho dovuto rinominare il file xorg.conf, in modo tale che venisse ignorato all'avvio del sistema. Vi copio il contenuto del file:

Comunque la qualità video non è buona come quando era in funzione i driver integrati dell'intel. Ne deduco che non sto ancora sfruttando al massimo la scheda nvidia.

Non vorrei dire cavolate, ma dovrei avere un scheda video integrata nel chipset dell'intel e poi la scheda dell'nvidia. Sto delirando?

Forse ho capito qual è il problema! Il driver nvidia che ho installato non è aggiornato e non è quindi compatibile con la mia scheda. Ho scaricato dal sito dell'nvidia il driver corretto (ecco il link). Per installarlo mi chiede di arrestare l' X server, cosa che non riesco a fare! Ho provato con il comando:

Ma non esiste il file gdm!!

AGGIORNAMENTO!!

Sono riuscito ad installare i driver giusti aggiornando i repository e quindi utilizzando semplicemente l'applicazione per l'aggiornamento del software.

Il problema non si risolve però! Il sistema si blocca all'avvio, prima della schermata di accesso per intenderci. Ho nuovamente "oscurato" il file xorg.conf per poter avviare il sistema. Vi copio il contenuto:

Ho verificato, il tuo notebook ha una NVIDIA GEForce GT520MX esterna e anche una scheda video intel integrata con driver i915.
Il file Xorg.0.log dice che è questa scheda ad essere attiva.
Se vuoi usare la scheda Nvidia devi fermare la scheda intel. Probabilmente puoi fare questo da BIOS
Riguardo al driver Nvidia devi usare la versione 96 o la 173. Non la 185 perchè non supporta la serie 5

Sulla pagina ufficiale dell'nvidia pare che il driver 285.05.09 (perché scrivi 185?) supporti la mia scheda. E cito:

Aggiunto il supporto delle seguenti GPU:
GeForce GT 520MX

Nell'elenco delle schede supportate dal driver compare anche la serie 500.


Secondo me il problema sta tutto nel file xorg.conf, come ho già detto. Devo compilarlo correttamente, solo che al momento non so come fare...  :'(

Ho trovato un altro forum in cui hanno lo stesso tuo problema.
Pare che ci possano essere varie soluzioni tra cui quella di spegnere da BIOS la scheda integrata.
Un altra soluzione potrebbe essere questa:

Se la modifica del file xorg.conf non funziona, provala.

Praticamente i driver nvidia per linux ancora non rioscono a sfruttare la tecnologia optimus che effettua uno switch tra scheda video integrata e nvidia quando necessario (quando si richiede maggior potenza grafica). 

Installando ironhide riesci a risolvere il problema abilitando il driver nvidia per i programmi che desideri che lo utilizzano. Al momento lo switch non è ancora automatico, devi impostarlo anticipando il comando "optirun" al nome del programma che vuoi lanciare, ma ci stanno lavorando...

Rispolvero questa vecchia discussione perché oggi ho combinato un pasticcio!

Allora, dopo aver aggiornato ubuntu alla versione 12.04, ho voluto riprovare a far girare questa benedetta scheda video (NVIDIA GeForce GT 520MX).

Come prima cosa ho controllato nel software center di ubuntu se ci fosse qualcosa di utile e lì ho trovato il pacchetto nvidia-current. Dopo averlo installato, da terminale ho lanciato il comando nvidia-xconfig (per aggiornare il file /etc/X11/xorg.conf) ed ho riavviato X (windows system). Risultato: nessun cambiamento, se non che ubuntu è passato alla "versione 2D" (quella con un unity più scarno e forse compiz disattivato). Il pacchetto che ho installato contiene la versione 295.40 dei driver nvidia. Allora dal sito della società ho scaricato l'ultima versione dei driver (ovvero la 295.59) ed ho provato ad installare questa. Da terminale ho eseguito il file .run e ho seguito le istruzioni a schermo. Una volta completata l'installazione ho lanciato il comando nvidia-confing ed ho riavviato X (windows system). A questo punto non ho potuto più accede ad ubuntu! Quando inserisco le mie credenziali nella schermata di login e premo su accedi, ubuntu dopo qualche operazione torna alla schermata di login e mi richiede nuovamente di autenticarmi, finendo così un vicolo cieco.

Accedendo al terminale, premendo CTRL+ALT+F2 dalla schermata di login, ho disinstallato entrambe le versioni dei driver, ma la situazione non cambia. In più ho cancellato (preservandone una copia) il file /etc/X11/xorg.conf generato da nvidia-xconfig.

Riuscite ad aiutarmi, se non altro a ripristinare il sistema?

Dopo una veloce ricerca sul web ho trovato la soluzione al problema in questo articolo: http://www.codewhirl.com/2012/03/ub...ecise-pangolin/.


Adesso però ho un altro piccolo problemino: posso lavorare solo con unity 2D.

Attualmente ho installato i driver proprietari nvidia (versione 295.59), ma non capisco se questi vengono riconosciuti/sfruttati a dovere. Ho provato a disinstallarli ed a reinstallare il pacchetto xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, ma in tal caso unity sembra non partire proprio: non compare ne il menù a sinistra (icone programmi), tanto meno la barra in alto. A parte questo il sistema è comunque utilizzabile, grazie ad esempio a scorciatoie da tastiera.

Siccome hai due schede video i driver nvidia ti danno dei problemi e l'unico modo sembra essere la tecnologia optimus.
