Installare tar-1.13.gz su Ubuntu?

Allora, premettendo che non ho alba di Linux..
Ubuntu 10.010 Maverick Meerkat, devo installare un qualcosa denominato "tar-1.13" per la creazione di pacchetti per Slackware tramite Gambas.
Allora, ho trovato "tar-1.13.tar.gz" da un ftp: ftp://elektroni.phys.tut.fi/slackware-13.0/source/a/tar/, scarico il file e lo decomprimo.
Ora ho la cartella in cui vado a vedere il file INSTALL:

The simplest way to compile this package is:

    `./configure' to configure the package for your system.  If you're
    using `csh' on an old version of System V, you might need to type
    `sh ./configure' instead to prevent `csh' from trying to execute

Lancio Gambas che mi dice che il tar 1.13 non è installato.
Penso sia da riavviare il sistema, riavvio, lancio Gambas che mi da lo stesso avviso.

Personalmente non conosco Gambas, però non è che devi dirgli dove andare a prendere quel pacchetto?
Perché essendo nella tua home è improbabile che venga riconosciuto automaticamente

Questo non lo so; comunque se io installo il tar-1.13, è una sorta di file di sistema che viene installato in una directory di default (x fare un paragone in c:\Windows\system32) oppure è come un programma a sè che usa una directory sua?
Come faccio a sapere dove è installato il tar-1.13?

A guardare l'output che hai postato sembrerebbe che l'abbia installato qui: /usr/local/share

Ad essere sincero, non so neanche dove sia da installare... pensavo fosse una cosa automatica.

E infatti l'ha installato in quella cartella che ti ho detto, quando hai dato make install.

Il punto è capire dove Gambas vada a cercarlo e eventualmente linkarglielo.

Ho provato a cercare, ma non mi sembra ci sia niente per linkare i vari pacchetti....

Non mi mette errore, solo che posso scegliere di creare pacchetti per i vari sistemi (Ubuntu, Qubuntu, Debian, Slackware, etc. etc.): io lavoro su Ubuntu e non mi permette si selezionare Slackware perchè mi dice che non ho il tar installato.

Hai applicato la patch prima di compilare?

quindi ti basta, probabilmente, aggiornare Gambas all'ultima versione per risolvere il problema.

Quello di tar 1.13 è un problema noto che ha fatto girare le rotelle a più di una persona. Prova così

sudo ln -s /bin/tar /bin/tar-1.13

il pratica crei un collegamento al tar installato e lo chiami tar-1.13. In questo modo l'IDE è convinto che tu abbia la versione richiesta

E' una soluzione che ho letto nella mailing list dello sviluppatore ed è funzionante, anche se io non uso creare pacchetti con l'IDE, tanto meno per slackware, quindi non so come si comporti poi l'installazione. In ogni caso, aggiornare la versione di gambas NON risolve il problema (io sto usando quella dei repo di precise), questo è un solo escamotage per far funzionare la creazione di quel pacchetto.

Sembra funzionare (non mi compare più l'avvertimento) e riesco a creare i pacchetti .tgz
Ho provato a installarlo su Slackware e non parte (mi compare il gambero saltellante in parte al puntatore e poi niente), indagherò.

Beh, io ho provato a cercare tar-1.13 su Gambas, e ho trovato l'FTP con it tar; poi ho provato a cercare come installare il tar su Ubuntu, ma non mi è mai passato per la testa di cercare tar-1.13+Slackware perchè si diceva dappertutto che comunque si necessitava del 1,13, quindi spero non me ne vogliate....
