[Internet] non vedo più la scheda wireless

ciao,
ho installato kubuntu edgy rilevando con piacere che la scheda wireless veniva riconosciuta automaticamente senza problemi e senza smanettamenti. dopo qualche giorno però mi accorgo che il sistema non vede più il wireless, semplicemente come se non ci fosse.
io non ho toccato nulla, l'unica cosa che può avere prodotto cambiamenti sono gli aggiornamenti automatici. andando in K-> internet->wireless assistant ottengo il messaggio "no usable wireless device found" e in effetti in K->impostazioni di sistema alla voce impostazioni di rete compare solo la scheda wired ma non la wireless. il tutto succede su un portatile asus. cosa può essere successo?
