Ho provato a installare Ubuntu 6.06 su una macchina di risulta che abbiamo in ufficio:
PIII 450 con 196MB ram e 8.4GB hd, scheda video S3 Savage4 GT, scheda rete 3Com 905B Tx
Ubunto parte da live cd e funziona regolarmente (a parte la lentezza...) per cui ho provato a installarlo sul disco fisso, solo che all'avvio da hd il sistema si blocca con la scritta:
GRUB Loading stage1.5
GRUB Loading, please wait...
Quasi la stessa situazione descritta qui: http://forum.ubuntu-it.org/viewtopic.php?t=33247 , salvo che io non ho periferiche usb collegate al sistema.
Durante l'installazione non ho ricevuto errori. Nell'installare ho scelto di far usare tutto il disco a Ubuntu, installando GRUB su hd0; il sistema ha creato queste partizioni:
Part. n.1 di master IDE1 (hda) con ext3
Part. n.5 di master IDE1 (hda) con swap
Con l'aiuto di un conoscente sono riuscito a capire che il disco fisso viene visto regolarmente, posso montarlo ed esaminare il suo contenuto.
Ho pensato che il problema potesse essere la presenza di una partizione nascosta non cancellata che facesse casino (il disco era di un vecchio pc IBM e spesso hanno partizioni nascoste per il ripristino del sistema) ma esaminando le partizioni (cfdisk) vedo che tutto lo spazio disponibile è allocato:
hda1 - boot - primary - linux ext3 - 8052 mb
hda5 - - logical - linux swap / solaris - 378 mb
Ho provato anche a modificare il file /boot/grub/menu.lst per visualizzare il menu di partenza mettendo timeout=60 e commentando hiddenmenu ma il menu non compare: forse il blocco avviene prima di quando dovrebbe essere usato menu.lst? ??? In fondo al post vi riporto il file menu.lst prelevato da /boot/grub sul disco fisso
Ho provato anche a creare un dischetto di avvio di grub e partire da floppy: viene visualizzato il prompt, posso impartire il comando root (hd0,0) ma a parte questo ogni altro comando si pianta inesorabilmente :'( Ho provato con:
find /boot/grub/stage1
configfile /boot/grub/menu.lst
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-10-generic (che "dovrebbe" essere il kernel, no?)
Non so proprio che fare, sono ??? , >:( e anche un poco ::) , se qualcuno ha delle idee sono tutte ben accette.
