DSDT (Differentiated System Description Table) risiede nel tuo BIOS e dà a Linux tutte le informazioni sul tuo computer. Il tuo ovviamente non è completo e/o preciso, quindi abbiamo bisogno di ottenerne uno nuovo.

Vai nella pagina ACPI in sourceforge e nel menu di sinistra clicca su DSDT e View. Qui puoi scegliere la casa di produzione, modello e versione del BIOS del tuo notebook.Nella pagina che otterrai, potrai scaricare un DSDT completo. Se non c'è niente per il tuo notebook, guarda i link alla fine di questo documento. Se non c'è nessuno DSDT per la tua versione del BIOS, aggiorna il tuo BIOS (che potrebbe risolvere il problema).

naturalmente nn trova nessun DSDT, il mio comunque è un problema che non si presenta sempre...

IL COMPUTER STA FUNZIONANDO CON L'ALIMENTAZIONE, NESSUNA BATTERIA PRESENTE

se dopo che l'ho usato senza l'alimentatore si scarica (è normale che si scarichi  ) lo metto a caricare (senza spegnere) la maggior parte delle volte mi riconosce la batteria e mi dice anche lo stato di carica...

Prova a modificare la configurazione di Grub (gksu gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst): identifica il blocco relativo all'avvio di Ubuntu che utilizzi di solito, e trova la riga che inizia per "kernel". Vai alla fine della riga ed aggiungi acpi=force dopo l'ultima opzione. Poi riavvia e verifica se il problema è ancora presente.

per curiosità, se fai un lsmod | grep battery quando non te la rileva, che output ricevi ? Se non ricevi nulla, cambia qualcosa dopo un sudo modprobe battery ?

Ciao a tutti, sono niubbo di Linux ed è da 1 mese circa che ho installato Ubuntu 7.04 : ne sono molto ma molto soddisfatto, tranne che x alcune cosette che proprio non riesco a sistemare, tra queste la temperatura a mio avviso un pò alta (ma chiederò aiuto nella sezione apposita) e lo stato di carica della batteria.

Premesso quindi che mi sono letto tutto quanto trovato sul Forum circa i notebook e l'icona della batteria, ecco il mio problema : Acer Aspire 1682 Lmi, Centrino 1,6 Ghz. Come a molti altri non viene "vista" la batteria e se lavoro staccato dalla rete elettrica, dopo 1 ora, 1 ora e mezza, si spegne il notebook senza nessun preavviso e buonanotte a tutto il lavoro!

da shell digito (da varie cose lette qua e là ):
acpi -b                                e se ne ritorna al prompt senza dirmi nulla (acpi -t invece funziona e mi da la temperatura)
lsmod|grep battery            mi dice battery 10756  0
sudo modprobe battery    e se ne ritorna al prompt senza dirmi nulla

Ho trovato una wiki : help.ubuntu.com/community/ACPIBattery
e me la sono letta tutta, ma nella ACPI Page a cui si fa riferimento, il mio modello di notebook non c'è....c'è il 1600, alcuni modelli successivi ma il 1680 o 1682 no! Fortunato eh?

Ho letto di qualcuno che ha risolto il problema con sudo apt-get installa linux-tree, altri con lo stesso comando ma linux-source. Io ho scaricato quest'ultimo (sulla fiducia xkè non so nemmeno cosa sia) ma niente da fare, la batteria è sempre "invisibile".

Se vado in
/proc/acpi/battery          non c'è nulla
/proc/acpi/ac_adapter    non c'è nulla

Ho letto anche di scaricare ed aggiornare il BIOS, ma vorrei evitare in quanto sicuramente farei solo dei danni e perderei sia XP (e va beh) che Ubu....

Sulla barra delle applicazioni sono riuscito infine ad installare alcuni "sensori", tipo quello della temperatura (sempre abbastanza alta tra 50 e 60 C), quello della CPU che scala bene da 600 a 1600 a seconda delle esigenze ed infine quella della batteria, che però mi dice sempre "il computer sta funzionando con l'alimentazione, nessuna batteria presente", ovviamente anche quando il notebook è staccato dalla rete elettrica.  >:(

Credo di aver scritto tutto.....qualcuno sa darmi una soluzione o mi metto il cuore in pace e mi tengo il tutto così com'è?

Allora :
per il kernel credo tu voglia il risultato di uname -r :  2.6.20-16-generic

per il DSDT table non ho modificato nulla perchè non saprei nemmeno dove andarlo a pescare nel mio sistema. Come ho scritto nel post volevo scaricarne uno dal sito citato nella wiki  http://acpi.sourceforge.net/  ma non sono riuscito a trovare il modello del mio Acer (1680 o 1682) e quindi non ho scaricato nulla.
Purtroppo x il resto non saprei proprio dove cercare un eventuale file DSDT già presente nel mio sistema.....sono niubbo... :-[

Da quel poco che ne posso capire io, non trova nessun file DSDT.aml e quindi usa qualcosa di "suo" all'interno del BIOS...forse allora basterebbe trovare il DSDT giusto x questa macchina o sapere se quello per la serie 1600 o 1690 potrebbe andar bene lo stesso, visto che quello specifico per il 1680 o 1682 non esiste....

se col kernel 2.6.15 funzionava, il tuo problema potrebbe essere collegato a questo bug.

Una soluzione proposta e apparentemente funzionante è quella di rimpiazzare il modulo kernel/drivers/acpi/i2c_ec.ko con la versione presente nel 2.6.15
Puoi fare questa prova:

1) scarica il .zip in allegato ed estrai il modulo da qualche parte sul tuo disco
2) riavvia in recovery
3) da shell, mv /lib/modules/2.6.20-16-generic/kernel/drivers/acpi/i2c_ec.ko /lib/modules/2.6.20-16-generic/kernel/drivers/acpi/i2c_ec.ko-bak
4) da shell, cp /path/del/modulo/estratto /lib/modules/2.6.20-16-generic/kernel/drivers/acpi/
5) riavvia in modalità normale, e vedi se funziona.

Allora, le cose stanno così : sinceramente non avevo idea se con il 2.6.15 funzionasse o meno, non mi ero mai posto il problema di far partire il notebook in 2.6.15, avendo il GRUB che mi propone di avviare sia come 2.6.16 che come 2.6.15 (nell'ordine in cui te li scritti qui).
Così mi sono detto : "proviamo ad avviare come 2.6.15 e vediamo acpi -V cosa mi dice...".
Ecco, come giustamente hai ipotizzato tu, con 2.6.15 acpi -V mi restituisce :

    Thermal 1: ok, 55.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: on-line 

esattamente quello che mi serviva! L'icona sulla barra mostra che è in carica, se ci vado sopra col mouse mi dice quanti minuti mancano alla fine della carica completa e se stacco l'alimentazione, dopo qualche secondo se ne "accorge" e mi dice :

Battery 1: discharging, 67%, 14:15:00 remaining
    Thermal 1: ok, 53.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: off-line

anche se nutro SERISSIMI dubbi sulla durata residua di 14 ore e 15 minuti..!!!! (rotfl)
Cmq ora in linea di massima ci siamo.....adesso i casi sono 2 : o applico il tuo suggerimento o elimino dal GRUB il boot come 2.6.16 e lo faccio partire sempre come 2.6.15, tanto mi sembra che funzioni lo stesso tutto, Beryl e skydome compresi.....tu cosa mi suggerisci? Tieni presente che sono molto niubbo e che ho una paura bestia di "incartare" tutto il sistema e non riuscire + a far funzionare nulla (ho già sperimentato + volte il restore completo  :'(  ).

La scelta spetta a te, comunque non temere di incartare tutto, se segui i passaggi che ti ho scritto noterai che ti faccio anche fare una copia di backup del nuovo modulo.

Se poi preferisci restare col 2.6.15, allora non serve eliminare fisicamente il 2.6.16, ti basta modificare la config di grub (gksu gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst), trovare la riga che dice default 0 e cambiarla nel numero della voce di menu (di grub) che vuoi che parta di default. Ad esempio, default 2 per la terza voce. Oppure se preferisci, default saved gli farà ricordare l'ultima selezione.

PS: Per la durata è abbastanza normale che all'inizio "sballi", poi si tara da solo man mano che misura il tasso di "scaricamento" della batteria

Puoi farle anche da nautilus, ma essendo caricato in memoria il modulo, è più sicuro effettuare l'operazione da recovery, quando nessuna componente del sistema può voler accedere al file fisico. In altre parole non sei bloccato come su Windows (dove un file caricato non può essere modificato su disco), ma è comunque buona norma creare il minor numero di discrepanze possibili, soprattutto trattandosi di kernel modules.

Uhmm......eccomi di nuovo con lo stesso problema :
con Festy 7.04 avevo risolto un bel pò di problemini sul mio maledetto portatile Acer, l'avevo configurato abbastanza benino, veloce quanto bastava anche nel boot e senza troppi fronzoli grafici (tipo skydome o altri effetti) altrimenti la GPU scalda come una stufa....va beh, non si può avere tutto, vero??
Mi metto in testa di passare a Gutsy 7.10, giusto per vedere se (magari) mi gestisce meglio la GPU e mi viene un pò incontro nel far funzionare la mia multifunzione Lexmark.......lo carico e mi fa solo dei pasticci, un gran casino e nessuna miglioria degna di nota (sigh).
Ritorno allora a 7.04 con un bel "restore" del mio ultimo backup ed ecco che iniziano i problemi : nonostante abbia ripetuto pari-pari il trucchetto propostomi da nuu l'icona della batteria non ne vuole sapere di funzionare con il kernel 2.6.20.16, mentre se carico il 2.6.20.15 funziona benissimo.
Avete qualche suggerimento in merito?
